TESTING OF BIOMECHANICAL AND ORTHOPAEDIC PRODUCTS

OUR SYSTEMS

Our systems are designed to cover a wide range of biomechanical and orthopaedic tests, with the utmost precision and reliability.

  • Electromechanical systems (EA): ideal for static and long-term cyclic testing.
  • Electrodynamic systems (UD): ideal for high-frequency dynamic and fatigue testing.
  • Modular and custom solutions: testing systems which, thanks to dedicated accessories, can be adapted for testing hip, knee, spinal and lower limb prostheses.

PROSTHESES TESTING SOFTWARE

NEW MODULE FOR ISO 22675

The Test Center new software module has been designed for structural and cyclic testing of ankle-foot devices and orthotic units in accordance with ISO 22675. The module manages the entire test sequence, from parameter configuration to result analysis, performing inertial compensation, calculating foot stiffness and initialising the motion profile without any manual intervention between one phase and the next.

At the core of the control system is EEPIC, our iterative learning control algorithm. EEPIC corrects the input motion profile based on the error measured in previous cycles, progressively refining the test until the target loading condition is reproduced with high accuracy.

This version is “Enhanced” for two reasons. First, control precision has increased by one order of magnitude compared to the previous version, allowing the system to track the target load profile more closely across the full range of angular positions. Second, a new real-time component actively prevents overshoot during cyclic loading — correcting the input profile as the test runs, rather than only between cycles.

You can follow the iterative control live: every control parameter updates in real time as the cycles progress, giving full visibility into how the system is converging on the target loading condition without needing to wait for post-processing.

  • Test cycles
  • Test frequency
  • Scaling of the load profile for different load levels and angular positions, with a preview of the profile before the test is run
  • Inertial compensation
  • Calculation of foot stiffness
  • Initialization of the motion profile carried out sequentially without manual intervention
  • Estimation of the foot-to-floor contact point: calculated at each angular position during the initialisation of the motion profile
  • Real-time control monitoring: full visibility of iterative control parameters whilst the test is running
  • Force and displacement measurements: recorded continuously and plotted against both time and angle
  • Automatic fault detection: derived from force and displacement measurements taken during the test
  • Real-time error monitoring: error percentages displayed in the interface whilst the test is running, with no need for post-processing

CUSTOMIZABLE SYSTEMS

ACCESSORIES AND ADDITIONAL COMPONENTS

Every laboratory and company has different requirements. That is why our systems can be customised:

  • Actuators: available in a range of power ratings and frequencies, for static, dynamic and fatigue testing.
  • Accessories: clamps, supports and specialised fixtures for every type of implant (hip, knee, bone plates, screws, ankle and foot).
  • Test facilities and environments: thermostatic baths to simulate physiological conditions, and climatic chambers for testing in controlled environments.
  • Control software: a simple yet comprehensive interface for carrying out standard tests or customised procedures.

MAIN STANDARDS

Our systems support a wide range of international standards, ensuring that tests comply with them:
